Conner Contemporary Art is pleased to announce the exhibition of
David Levinthal's renowned photographic series: The Wild West.
Inspired by the romance and grandeur of 1950's Western television and
film, these extraordinary photographs encapsulate the
American pioneer spirit of the Old West. In Wild West, Levinthal
fabricates colorful epic scenes with vintage toy cowboys to portray the
rugged individualism of the Western hero.

"Having worked with toys and other objects of popular culture as the
subject matter for my artwork for over 25 years, I have always found
these objects not to be benign toys merely for play, but rather an active
and profound means for the socialization of
society," comments Levinthal.

The Wild West photographs exemplify Levinthal's innovative work,
which is featured in the permanent collections of the Museum of Modern
Art, NY, and the National Museum of American Art, Washington, DC,
The Whitney Museum of American Art, NY, The Brooklyn Museum, NY
The Metropolitan Museum of Art, NY, Bibliotheque Nationale, Paris,
France, Eurostar, Graz, Austria, The Eileen and Peter Norton
Collection, Santa Monica, CA, Los Angeles County Museum of Art,
Los Angeles CA – to name a few.
