>> The Gallery is very pleased to formalize our working relationship with the renowned Belgian conceptual artist, Koen Vanmechelen . The artist's ongoing global enterprise, The Cosmopolitan Chicken Project is inspired by his premise that each country/region selectively cultivated a breed of chicken expressing its cultural identity (e.g., the U.S. Jersey Giant is the largest). Systematically crossing all breeds, Vanmechelen strives to create a world-hybrid chicken, reinvigorating the species with genetic integrity which domestication diminished. The artist's work poses ethical questions concerning genetic engineering, globalization and individuality.

Vanmechelen has a solo exhibition collateral to the 53rd Venice Biennale: The Unicorn , Seyola Grande di San Teodoro (Rialto), Venezia, Italy through November 22, 2009. The artist will also participate in the 3rd Moscow Biennale - Garage Center for Contemporary Culture, Moscow, Russia, September 25-October 25, 2009.
